Allen & Heath Unveils Premium GL Mixer at Summer NAMM 2005

Indianapolis, IN (July 22, 2005) - Allen & Heath is showing the GL3800 dual-function live sound console for installed sound, touring and rental, introduced earlier this year, at Summer NAMM 2005 (Booth #1509, Indiana Convention Center, Indianapolis, IN; July 22-24, 2005). The 8-group, 10-aux design is available in 24, 32, 40 and 48 frames, each offering a choice of all mono, 4 stereo or 8 stereo channels and Sys-Link V2 expandability.

Designed for multi-task mixing, the flip of a few protected mode switches quickly configures front of house, monitor only, or monitors from FOH. The 12x4 matrix includes external inputs and innovative mic cross-patching to easily create ambient enhanced mixes for recording, broadcast and IEM. The mono/stereo capability of the matrix, the dedicated stereo aux, and even the addition of a 3.5mm earpiece socket make the GL3800 well suited to the latest in-ear and distributed personal monitoring techniques.

The console uses proven individual card construction and is furnished with a full length, illuminated VU meter pod, soft armrest, dual-rail Alps K-faders, and built-in PSU combiner. Designed for optimum gain structure, the GL3800 benefits from a 74dB preamp gain range, +34dB input headroom, responsive EQ, a new ultra-quiet mix head amp design, solid copper bar grounding and +26dBu differential output drive capability.

"The GL3800 takes the best of the GL pedigree and packs more features and performance into its restyled rock-solid frame," commented Allen & Heath design manager, Carey Davies. "We have worked through real mixing applications and paid particular attention to detail to satisfy the most demanding situations.

"For example, pre/post aux selection is per channel rather than global for unrestricted flexibility when mixing sources such as radio mics and sound effects into the monitors, or when splitting an important vocal into two channels for independent monitor EQ. A recessed panel switch rather than internal jumper configures the auxes pre or post-EQ per channel, which is the ideal solution to satisfy personal preference. The prefade setting is also pre-insert so you don't get the compression in the monitors.

"Many other details, such as the ability to latch talkback when using a switched hand held mic, the wide viewing angle meters, built-in pink noise generator with patch output and much more, combine with a clearly logical layout to make the GL3800 a worthy addition to the GL range."

Other models in the new range are the GL2400, GL2800 and GL4800.
