Allen & Heath AHM-64 Offers Flexibility for New York’s General Theological Seminary

Legend Sound Systems is a Philadelphia-based AVL integrations company, offering installation services to a variety of customers – including bars and restaurants, fitness centers, houses of worship, and more. The company was recently approached for a unique project upgrading the Chapel of the General Theological Seminary in Manhattan, NY. “They needed a way to host two different types of services,” recalled Bill Lyle, President of Legend Sound. “The seminary had daily traditional services each morning; requiring a very basic audio setup with a few wireless mics. Then on the weekends, they hosted more modern services with a full band. We needed to figure out a way to give the right control access to the right people.”

With the complexities of the project now clear, Lyle began to ponder an optimal solution. “I didn’t want a seminary student with no training to be pushing faders on a mixing console,” he explained. “I also didn’t want the control to be dumbed down for trained audio engineers when they came in to mix on Sundays.”

At the time, Allen & Heath’s AHM platform was rising into prominence, and Lyle saw that as a perfect fit. AHM matrix mixers offer advanced audio processing and multi-zone routing with a variety of simplified control options. “Using an AHM-64 processor with a Dante module to feed directly to the amps, we had our traditional services covered,” said Lyle. For the modern weekend services, Lyle’s team added a fully-featured 48-channel SQ-5 mixing console – which connected to the same Dante network using its own Dante module. An Allen & Heath AR2412 stagebox feeds inputs to both the AHM and SQ.

For the students to control the various microphones during daily services, Lyle created a custom mobile application using Allen & Heath’s Custom Control editor. “The app interface only shows seven faders,” explained Lyle. “We also set it up so that each fader is limited to prevent the mics from being set too loud and creating feedback problems. It really worked out well.”

The Legend Sound team configured the AHM so that each Zone output fed a different speaker, which allowed for precise tuning in a difficult acoustic environment. “The walls are stone and the ceilings are 40 feet high,” explained Lyle. “There was a lot of careful tailoring required to get the sound right, and we were able to do that with AHM.”

Even though this was his first time installing an AHM processor, Lyle found it a breeze to configure and operate. “New products are always daunting, but it was fairly easy to use. If I ever did hit a brick wall, I could shoot an e-mail to the support team or use one of the many great instructional videos online to get through it.”

The staff at the Seminary were delighted with the resulting installation and its control interface. “We’ve been thrilled by the setup at (General Theological Seminary),” said Michael DeLashmutt, Senior Vice President of the Seminary. “We don’t have a professional AV team or even a single person who we can rely on for AV support from one semester to the next. The setup that (Legend Sound) provided for us, with the simplified tablet interface, gives us the sound quality that we needed, but without the complexity that would make running it unfeasible for our students, staff, or volunteers.”

The Legend Sound team has earned more jobs through word of mouth as a result of this installation, and they will likely continue to opt for AHM when similar installs come up. “I prefer Allen & Heath products to any other products on the market,” noted Lyle. “Not only are they good quality products, the service is unparalleled. If I ever have a problem, I can pick up the phone and I know it’s going to get fixed.”

BASSBOSS Shakes the dust out of the NAMM Show Ceiling

BASSBOSS Creates Sonic Booms at The NAMM Show with Unveiling of Two Game-Changing Products

BASSBOSS, the trailblazing force in audio innovation, left an indelible mark at The NAMM Show 2024 with their “Demolition Experience” demonstrations by shaking the ceiling tiles, knocking out the lights and causing a viral sensation at the show. Demo-goers were left astounded, with exclamations such as “The roof was caving in on us” and “Absolutely insane!” echoing through the exhibit hall due to the sheer intensity of the aptly named “Demo-litions”.

The roof-raising, dust-creating, and audience-impressing demonstrations were powered by an extraordinary lineup of gear including six new Makara-MK3 Double 21″ Powered Subwoofers, two monumental Kraken-MK3 Quad 21″ Subwoofers, an astonishing six ZV28-MK3 Double 18″ Subwoofers, and four powerful MFLA Line Arrays. This veritable arsenal of gear created the exciting and invigorating environment of maximum craziness that only BASSBOSS will bring.

The Makara-MK3 blew away demo attendees with its punchy and almost violent bass performance and was quadruply more impactful when paired with BASSBOSS’ Kraken-MK3 Quad 21″ Powered Subwoofer, which physically combines with the Makara into a seamless monster stack of subs.

In addition to the Makara-MK3, BASSBOSS showcased the new CCM12-MK3 Compact Coaxial Monitor. This monitor stands out with its 50% smaller size compared to typical 12″ monitors, making it an ideal choice for stages, fills, and space-constrained locations. Its compact design enhances portability and setup flexibility for audio production use.

BASSBOSS’ impactful presence at The NAMM Show 2024 had attendees buzzing and continues to expand the BASSBOSS commitment to pushing the boundaries of audio experiences.

AM&S Celebrates a Successful Presence at the Namm Show 2024

American Music & Sound, one of the leading distributors of musical instruments and pro audio products in North America, had their most exciting and prominent presence ever at the 2024 NAMM show, which took place from January 25 to 28 at the Anaheim Convention Center.
American Music & Sound, an Exertis | JAM business, represents many renowned brands in the industry, including Allen & Heath, Nord, BASSBOSS, Focusrite, and more. These brands successfully showcased their latest and greatest products at two American Music and Sound booths: one in the Main hall (#11110), focused on musical instruments and DJ products; and one in the Pro Audio hall (#18311), focused on professional mixing consoles and pro audio gear.

The Pro Audio booth was extended this year to include products from CAD, Lake People, and Ashly Audio. In addition to learning about special promotions tied to the company’s 50th anniversary in 2024, visitors to the Ashly Audio display were able to demo the new AquaControl software, which provides a powerful and intuitive interface for controlling Ashly’s networked amplifiers and processors. CAD Audio presented its range of microphones, headphones, wireless systems, and more. Lake People, a German manufacturer of high-end audio equipment, displayed its range of headphone amplifiers, converters, and preamps.

The booth in the main hall featured a range of performances from brand-endorsed DJs and live musicians- mixed by Allen & Heath’s new CQ series of compact digital mixers. Newly included in a corner of the American Music & Sound booth was a ‘MIX&LISTEN ZONE’, which allowed for interactive demos of a wide range of interfaces, guitars, keyboards, mixers, headphones and loudspeakers from a wide spectrum of American Music & Sound distributed brands.

“At the end of day, the real metric that matters is how many folks walked away from the booths and special events with a smile on their face,” said American Music & Sound / Allen & Heath USA Marketing Director, Jeff Hawley. “We can confidently state that the smiles and engaging experiences were up for AM&S in 2024. Allen & Heath was all over the place, every one of the interactive events was packed, and the new ‘Mix & Listen Zone’ in the AM&S booth was always hopping. It was great to see a Washburn guitar from our friends at KMC running through an Allen & Heath CQ and into ADAM Audio headphones — right next to a Kurzweil keyboard into an A&H SQ console and Fostex studio monitors. The ‘one-stop-shop’ story that we like to tell is more than just marketing-speak!”

American Music & Sound also hosted a speaker demo room (#201D), showing off BASSBOSS and Ocean Way Audio’s AeroWave speakers with live demos. AeroWave is a revolutionary speaker system that uses precise wave guide technology to create a true stereo sound for large audiences. Attendees were able to hear AeroWave for themselves on show days at 11am, 1pm, and 4pm. BASSBOSS demos, featuring new MK3 technology, took place daily at noon, 3pm, and 5pm, and awed room-packed audiences with the roof shaking power of their speakers. “The BASSBOSS demo experience navigated a product journey from its ultra-portable powerhouse models like the SV9, DV12, BB15, and DJ18s to the industry leading production, touring, and install series cabs,” said BASSBOSS and Ocean Way Audio National Sales Manager Samia Scoda. “Each demo’s finale not only had the audience raving, the ceiling was also showing off its moves. The never harsh, warm clean sound coupled with extraordinarily powerful LF, made memories for all that were in attendance.”

Beyond a successful showcase at their booth in the pro audio hall, Allen & Heath earned a TEC Award commemorating the dLive cTi1500 v1.97 for Small Format Console Technology. Nord was another American Music & Sound distributed brand that won a TEC Award for Musical Instrument Hardware with their Stage 4 keyboard, while Ashly Audio (an Exertis | JAM business) was a finalist with their MA Series Amplifiers Category for Amplification Hardware / Studio & Sound Reinforcement.

“The team at American Music & Sound has always been one of the most consistent supporters of the NAMM Show, especially over the past few years as we figured out what trade shows would look like post-pandemic,” said American Music & Sound President Patrick Sullivan. “Our belief was always that the most important part of our job was to meet our partners face to face, shake their hand, and talk about how we could improve the experience of our shared customers. The great manufacturers we represent supported us over the last few shows, even when it was uncertain what the NAMM show would bring. After the amazing turnout of 2024 Show, we felt that our commitment to the industry was rewarded by the overwhelmingly positive responses we received from our product booths, demo rooms, and training sessions. We expect that the time spent with partners both old and new, mapping out how to improve the customer experience and supply the right products and solutions at the right time, will bring exciting opportunities in the coming year.”

Allen & Heath Celebrates a Successful 2024 NAMM Show

Allen & Heath, an industry leader in professional audio products, had a memorable presence at the 2024 NAMM Show – the world’s largest trade show for music production, pro audio, and event technology. The company showcased its entire product range; from compact ZED analog series mixers to their flagship dLive systems, and showed off some of its latest innovations; including the CQ series of compact digital mixers and the Avantis Solo, a more portable version of their popular 64-channel Avantis console.

Before the NAMM show officially opened, Allen & Heath sponsored the Worship Musician Pre-NAMM Hang – featuring performances by artists such as Doug Doppler, Bob Bennett, and Chris Rocha. Performances were mixed using a CQ-18T mixer, and a second CQ was on display for guests to explore.

Once the NAMM show kicked off, the Allen & Heath booth was a hub of activity throughout the four-day event, attracting visitors from all over the world who wanted to experience Allen & Heath products in action. The booth featured every current Allen & Heath mixer series, and visitors had the opportunity to mix multitracks using headphones on all consoles in the booth.

One of the highlights of the show was the live performance stage at the American Music and Sound booth, which was powered by a CQ series mixer. The CQ series is a new line of compact digital mixers which offer plenty of powerful tools in a small and affordable package. Daily demos were hosted by Allen & Heath product manager Keith Johnson, who explained the features and benefits of the CQ series with a live band performing.

Another highlight of the show was the live sound training sessions offered by Allen & Heath. The 2024 sessions had record-breaking attendance, and covered topics such as live sound basics, dLive certification, and advanced mixing techniques. The sessions were led by Allen & Heath USA Live Sound and Touring Manager Mike Bangs, who has over 20 years of experience in the live sound industry and has worked with artists such as Aerosmith, Eric Clapton, Katy Perry, and Tom Petty. The sessions also featured some special guest speakers from the industry, such as Chris Dwight and Salim Akram.

Jeff Hawley, Marketing Director of American Music and Sound / Allen & Heath USA, also took part in two NAMM TEC Tracks sessions. Alongside Mike Bangs and special guests Tim Omel and Jim Yakabuski, one panel covered topics from immersive audio to fresh strategies for system design and workflows. Another session featuring Doug Doppler, Golden Preciado, and Wayne Yuan discussing sound, team dynamics, and stagecraft for House of Worship.

The icing on the cake for Allen & Heath was the NAMM TEC award for Small Format Console Technology, which was awarded to the dLive CTi1500 V1.97. The dLive CTi1500 is the most compact and lightweight dLive surface, offering 12 faders, 6 layers, and a 12″ touchscreen, and can be paired with any dLive MixRack to create a powerful and flexible mixing system.

“It was amazing to catch up with our fans and speak with new customers at the show,” said Hawley. “With CQ garnering a ton of buzz at the booth and being put into action at the Pre-NAMM HANG, Qu in the TEC Tracks rooms, dLive certification sessions overflowing, Avantis out in support of a number of our partners and ZED across the show flow in various demos, Allen & Heath was everywhere. The TEC Award win was a highlight for sure, but the real story is that every part of the A&H lineup was well-represented and a good time was had by all!”

BASSBOSS Unveils the Makara-MK3 Double 21″ Powered Subwoofer

BASSBOSS announces the release of the Makara-MK3 Double 21” Powered Subwoofer, a mystic monster that provides the impact and depth of a much larger subwoofer in a portable enclosure.

The Makara shares much of its DNA with the legendary BASSBOSS Kraken Quad-21” Powered Subwoofer. Another “Monster of the Deep,” the Makara-MK3 is engineered to deliver a flat response to the profound depth of 23Hz. A massive amount of face-melting bass emits from this mythical creature made real. For those new to such profound musical depths, the encounter is unforgettable and addictive. For the initiated, it’s a sensation they crave again and again.

Like the Kraken Subwoofer, the Makara-MK3 doesn’t only go deep, it also provides the fearsome impact delivered by the short-horn loading of the fronts of the cones. The Makara shares the footprint, the depth and the impact of the Kraken, and offers increased portability and versatility by being significantly smaller and more manageable.

The Makara-MK3 achieves a maximum sustained output of 143 dB SPL at 1 meter in a half-space (ground plane) environment, with a peak SPL of 146 dB. The 21” transducers feature 4.5” CCAW voice coils and Neodymium motors that create the ideal combination of efficiency and motor force.

Each transducer is driven by a discrete amplifier. Their combined output has the potential to deliver 5000 Watts to the two drivers. Integrated with the amplification package is a comprehensive DSP that includes the “secret sauce” of the BASSBOSS line, the extensive proprietary processing by Designer David Lee. High-pass and low-pass filters, equalization and limiting are in place to ensure smooth response, reliable operation and seamless interoperability with all BASSBOSS loudspeakers and subwoofers.

A waterproof (IP65 rated) Neutrik powerCON True 1 TOP connector provides power input connection, fed from a standard US 3-pin 120V electrical plug (NEMA 5-15). Signal input and pass-through connectors are XLR. LAN connectivity for ControlBASS software is via 2 internally switch-linked EtherCON RJ45 data connectors.

The Makara-MK3 is built for durability from 18 mm marine-grade Birch plywood. The cabinet measures 48” x 28” x 36” and is finished in black, textured, bonded, high-pressure polyurea coating, making it suitable for any environment. 35mm pole sockets are provided on all 4 sides. Four steel bar handles and UHMWPE sliders make setup surprisingly easy. The Makara-MK3 sliders interlock with each other, and with the Kraken, providing the ideal building blocks for “a wall of bass.”

The Makara-MK3 is the latest embodiment of BASSBOSS’s commitment to facilitating unforgettable experiences through powerful yet practical products that provide loudspeakers for thrill seekers.

The BASSBOSS Makara-MK3 Double 21″ Powered Subwoofer will be available in late March. For more information, visit bassboss.com/makara or contact your local BASSBOSS dealer.

Focusrite Group and American Music & Sound Extend 20-Year Partnership

2024 marks the 20-year anniversary of the US distribution partnership between Focusrite Group and American Music & Sound (AM&S). American Music & Sound, an Exertis | JAM business, has been a trusted partner for the famed English music creation and pro audio brand, providing a wide range of logistics, sales support, tradeshow and event coordination over the past two decades. In addition to its continued role as a key US distribution partner for Focusrite and Novation branded products, AM&S has now been selected to support the ADAM Audio brand as well.

Founded in 1985 with a focus on high-end studio microphone preamplifiers and equalizers, Focusrite Group has since expanded to include content creation brands like Novation, Ampify Music, Sonnox and ADAM Audio. Based on their innovative studio monitoring technology, ADAM Audio has earned a worldwide reputation as the preeminent tool for sound engineers. These advances have defined ADAM Audio speakers’ immediately identifiable sonic characteristics: accurate and transparent, with high definition. As of January 1, 2024, dealers can order ADAM Audio via the AM&S B2B dealer portal, sales hotline or customer service representatives.

“It is an honor to represent Focusrite and we take that job very seriously,” says American Music & Sound President Patrick Sullivan. “From the early days of AM&S, Focusrite has put their trust in us. It has been an amazing twenty years of mutual growth and we are all proud to have reached this milestone. Here’s to twenty more years.”

BASSBOSS Unveils the CCM12-MK3 Monitor

Introducing the BASSBOSS CCM12-MK3 Compact Coaxial Monitor, a versatile and powerful loudspeaker that provides inspiring sound quality and intense output for performers, nightclubs, or installations.

The CCM12-MK3 is designed to meet the needs of discerning and demanding vocalists, instrumentalists, and venues. The CCM12-MK3 stands out for its compact size, which is 50% smaller than typical 12” monitors, making it an attractive fit for stages and fills. It saves space on stage, in room corners, and in size-constrained locations. For audio production use, its very small size enhances portability and setup flexibility.

One of the key features of the CCM12-MK3 is its coaxial driver, which delivers an 80-degree conical coverage pattern. This ensures that sound quality is consistent and uniform, regardless of where the audience is located, addressing the common issue of sound character changing with different listening positions. Additionally, this design helps in reducing feedback, a notable advantage over traditional performance monitors.

The monitor is designed with versatility in mind, offering multiple monitoring options. It can be adjusted to three different upward angles to suit both standing and seated performers. The CCM12-MK3 can be placed on subwoofers or tables, pole-mounted, used as a stage side-fill or front-fill, and mounted on walls or ceilings, thanks to its M10 fly-points and compact size.

The CCM12-MK3 features completely integrated processing with eight on-board presets. These settings are optimized for various scenarios, including floor-monitor duty, boundary loading, and extended LF output. The monitor’s high-fidelity electronics, ultra-low noise CODECS, and high-resolution amplification contribute to its exceptional sound quality.

Lastly, the monitor’s powerful amplification capabilities, featuring a bi-amped Class-D SMPS with PFC, deliver 900W LF and 300W HF power. Its sealed enclosure design provides flexibility for both low-frequency extension and high-SPL operation, making the CCM12-MK3 a robust and versatile choice for a wide range of audio needs.

The CCM12-MK3 excels with its 12” coaxial woofer and 3” voice coil, coupled with a 1.4” throat compression driver. These components work together to produce robust low frequencies and clear high frequencies. The monitor’s advanced technology ensures tight transient response and consistent phase response.

Availability

The BASSBOSS CCM12-MK3 Compact Coaxial Monitor will be available in late February. For more information, pricing and dealer information visit bassboss.com/ccm
